Longhorn Beef Boosters Program:
At Kimball Public Schools, we are very proud to be a part of our agricultural-based community. We realize that without all of the agricultural property in our district, our school district could not operate. An idea that has come up recently that would allow our district to showcase this pride is serving locally-raised/ USDA approved beef to our students throughout the school year.
One way we believe we can do this, is by having locally raised beef donated to our school foundation and processed at Bear Mountain Beef in Hawk Springs, WY, which is a USDA approved processing facility. Many patrons will say that area cattle producers already give enough to the school district through property tax; however, we have had multiple area producers say they would be interested in donating a cow/ fat steer to the school district if that meant locally raised beef would be served at Kimball Public Schools.
Our Beef in Schools program would work as follows: If a cow/fat steer was donated to be processed, the donor would have their name and brand put on our Longhorn Beef Board in the Jr/Sr High School Student Center. In addition, donors will receive recognition on our school website and app for their donation. The donor would be responsible for delivery of the beef to Bear Mountain Beef and Kimball Public Schools would be responsible for pick-up of the beef and processing costs.
We realize timing can be very important in donating a beef, so we would be very open to working with the producer’s production schedule. Bear Mountain Beef has open slots throughout the year with August and September being the busiest due to fair season. Our goal in this first year of the program is to have six (6) cows/ fat steers donated to our school district with processing scheduled throughout the school year.
If you are thinking, “I don’t raise cattle, but I would love to donate for the processing of an animal.” please let us know and we can make that happen. Any size of donation for processing costs of beef will be accepted. Also, some patrons have mentioned buying an animal at the county fair and donating it for the Beef in Schools program. Please let us know and we will work with you to make that happen as well. We look forward to working with you to bring locally-raised beef into our district!
If you have interest in being part of our Beef in Schools program, please contact Superintendent Trevor Anderson at: (308)235-2188 or tanderson@kpslonghorns.org for more details.
Sincerely,
Trevor Anderson, Superintendent
