English 9 students are starting their next novel called Night by Elie Wiesel. Before reading, students were given the biography of a person who lived during the time of the Holocaust. They made butterflies as tribute to the person they chose. These butterflies will hang in class for the remainder of the novel and at the end, each student will find out the fate of their butterfly. People who survived the Holocaust get to keep their butterflies up, those who lost their lives will be cut down. This is such a powerful experience that students recall years after reading. Here are a few of our butterflies.
